A very strange feeling comes over you contemplating the
waters of the Bosphorus channel between two seas Istanbul which runs north to
south, from the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. Here ends the Europe, Asia
begins here ... Straddling two continents, the city remembers sometimes it was
the Byzantine Greeks, the Constantinople of the Eastern Roman Empire and the
capital of the Ottoman sultans . This city was, for generations, the same place
and the symbol of civilization. Fabulous concentration of intelligence and
wealth, Istanbul dazzled humanity during nine centuries ....
Theater of history, Istanbul is also a true street theater.
Built on seven hills overlooking the sea, is a maze of narrow streets, riddled
by large boulevards.
Istanbul is both a reduction and Turkey in a cultural
exception. All provinces and all trades are based in a cosmopolitan bustle.
Here, however, one of Europe dream; archaic alongside the modern. This is the
East (all) against the West. The Bosphorus stare sometimes jealous, always
twins.
Just pass the bridge begins a new adventure. Two gigantic
suspension bridges over the Bosphorus linking Asian Istanbul with European
Istanbul. In turn, the latter is divided in two by a famous estuary, the Golden
Horn: the south, the peninsula of the old Istanbul (Sultanahmet Sirkeci ...),
which includes most known monuments. In the north the Galata district, with
Beyoğlu Istanbul late nineteenth century, extended by the modern city begins
the "real life" Stambouliotes.
